Power of Declaration

Dear Paradigm Nouveau Colleagues and Friends:

With great humility, we are excited to announce that, after an 18-month process, our Commitment, Sustainable Boulder by 2020, was officially recognized on August 21, 2010 by the Clinton Global Initiative Commitments Department!

The official stated CGI Commitment to Action summary is as follows:

Paradigm Nouveau commits to assist Boulder, Colorado in becoming an economically, ecologically and equitably sustainable community by 2020. This will be achieved by developing an innovative locally-generated financial vehicle that provides essential financing for sustainable community development projects and by establishing media-based grassroots leadership for engaging and educating the citizens of Boulder. Central to our commitment is the goal of developing a replicable model that can be applied in other communities.

On September 14, one week before the CGI Annual Meeting in Manhattan, the Paradigm Nouveau Foundation will host an SB2020 launching event in Boulder, Colorado. At the celebration Boulder’s brilliant sustainability projects and leaders will be showcased and acknowledged. Each of us will have a chance to share our 2020 vision, and create a synergistic partnership for our work together. SB2020 is designed to propel all of us in bringing our ideas into reality.

Also, Paradigm Nouveau Foundation will be recognized as a new entity which will serve as the driver for the SB2020 project during the next 10 years. The Foundation’s new logo has been created and Rick Levine has been named as its Executive Director.

On a personal note, I’d like to briefly share about this process of publicly declaring, committing to and launching a 10-year future and beyond. ~ There was a point during the pregnancy of each of my children where I began to “nest.” Intuitively I knew what food to eat and what preparations my home needed. Similarly, during this 18-month SB2020 gestation period, I found myself naturally clearing internal obstacles and putting in place a more refined and disciplined daily schedule. I’ve mobilized every aspect of my life in preparation to give the next 10 years the biggest possible rocket boost for a sustainable future. I feel that we are at a defining moment in human history and I’ve done everything I know in my power to prepare myself, my family, my community and my planet for the breakthrough required for true sustainability into the 21st century.

I’ve often been asked how I can maintain my inspiration and optimism. My answer is simply this: I love my children. I love all children and future generations. Love is alchemical, powerful, transformative, and even miraculous. I’m fierce about this kind of love and protection for our children and their home planet. 

President John F. Kennedy declared we could send a man to the moon, and we did. If a man can go to the moon, communities can be sustainable.
